Fitness and Exercise Can Prevent Disease By Judith Brandy

Fitness and exercise slow the onset of disease.

This is a proven fact and yet more Americans than ever are suffering from obesity and Type Two diabetes thought to be at epidemic levels in the United States. If you are overweight, and especially if you are obese, or if you’ve been diagnosed with diabetes, then take your doctor's advice and begin and begin a regular fitness and personalized exercise program. You’ll be very glad you did.

One of the bi-products of fitness and exercise, as any doctor will tell you, is that working out and consistent exercise helps manage your blood sugar. A diabetic who takes drugs daily may realize that less medication is needed with a habitual fitness and exercise program. Many diabetics who stay with fitness and exercise programs may find that they are able to reduce or quit the medication and manage their diabetes in a totally natural way.

High triglycerides are also rapidly becoming a norm for most Americans. High triglycerides are linked to heart disease, including strokes and heart attacks. A wonderful, easy-to accomplish and totally natural way to decrease your level of triglycerides is to begin and stick with a fitness and exercise program combined with a sensible diet. Elevated triglycerides are also connected to high blood sugar, and it is very common in diabetics. Fitness and exercise effectively minimizes two potential health risks at the same time.

Many people have despaired at the way obesity has become part of the American psyche questioning its causes. Some reasons are obvious. Sedentary lifestyles are now much more common and can include working in front of computers, watching television, staying indoors, playing virtual reality games and the like. In addition, many Americans eat diets high in fat and carbohydrates. Whatever the source, fitness and exercise can be a major part of the cure for this predicament. Increasing physical activity, raising the heart rate, and just getting active can help a person loose weight, control triglyceride levels and improve or stave off diabetes. It should not be ignored.

Parents should restrict time spent by children with video games or watching television and encourage them to engage in fitness and exercise. Children did this naturally in past generations, but now there are too many distractions to keep them inside. Playing games like baseball, basketball and jump rope outdoors can help alleviate this situation in a way that is fun and revitalizing for all involved. Children who learn the benefits of fitness and exercise at an early age will continue working out in adulthood. They will lead healthier lifestyles and tend to live longer, healthier and happier lives.

Fitness and Exercise Gains Popularity

Fitness and exercise is gaining in popularity for many reasons. Since the advertisement and educational commercials about obesity and its deadly effects on Americans in recent years as well as a rash of Type 2 diabetes on the upswing, people have begun seeing the benefit of engaging in fitness and exercise to improve their conditions. Parents are once again encouraging their youngsters to get up and away from the television and work out, and the baby boomers, pursuing fitness and exercise as they age, are taking to it with commitment in order to enjoy their lives well into the advanced years. Regardless of the reasons, many Americans take fitness and exercise very seriously now whereas a bare ten years ago it was on the fringes of societal consciousness.

Americans exercise in a wide variety of ways engaging in fitness and exercise activities which reflect the diversity of both the population and their interests. Many people go to gyms or athletic clubs. Others participate in sports events that they enjoy. Fitness and exercise activities can include bowling, racquet sports like squash, golf, summer softball leagues, horseshoes, hiking, horseback riding, and many other fun things to do. Fitness and exercise activities in American have many faces.

One of the most popular fitness and exercise activities is walking. Many people of all ages enjoy taking a brisk walk every day. This simple fitness and exercise activity can be done by almost anyone. So many Americans are walking these days that magazines are published devoted to the activity. Generally Americans are not as organized as their European cousins when in comes to walking. In Germany, one of the most popular weekend fitness and exercise activities is the volksmarch, or the people’s march. When a volksmarch occurs, people of all ages come together to take a day long or walk through a town or the countryside, stopping to share a meal and good conversation along the way. They combine fitness and exercise with social activity and everyone has a great time.

Americans may not be ready for the volksmarch yet, but they find many other fitness and exercise options to their liking. Golf is more popular now than any time in history. Tennis is making a comeback and even martial arts are fitness and exercise choices for many. For Americans the important thing about fitness and exercise is to do something and make sure that that is something they will enjoy so that they stick with it.

Fitness and exercise is now more mainstream, and with it's continued growth, it will lead to a longer and healthier life, and give a great deal of fun to the participants along the way.

Soccer Speed By Patrick Beith

Soccer is an explosive sport where your body needs to be running at 100% in order to get the most out of your performance. Before you even think about running speed workouts you must first devise a warm up plan that will help you prepare to compete at high speeds and intensities.

An effective warm up must consist of a series of dynamic and active movements that start with low impact, low intensity exercises and progress naturally to high intensity, full speed exercises that simulate the intensity of the upcoming practice or competition.

As you know, in order for your soccer athletes to be ready to perform speed work or compete at high intensities, they must get warmed up properly.

We often find that there is some confusion as to what constitutes a proper warm up. For example, some coaches are still using static stretching to get athletes loose before practices and competitions. Unfortunately, this outdated method actually reduces speed and power.

Think about it: How often during a practice or soccer match does an athlete hold a stretch position as part of their sport? That is right, not very often. So if you are still using this method to get your athletes ready to compete, you are not getting the most out of their ability.

Instead, have your soccer players perform dynamic exercises that are similar to the types of movements they will be going through during practice and competitions. Keep athletes moving and gradually increase the intensity of their activity. That way you can get the blood flowing into the muscles through a natural progression.

Remember, a good warm up should take at least 20 to 25 minutes to complete. This will reduce the likelihood of injury by ensuring that they do not try to go too fast too soon. In addition, athletes will get the most out of their muscles because they followed a thought out progression of movements that went from low intensity jogging and skipping to high intensity speed development drills and exercises.

By the time they are done warming up, they will be lightly sweating, fired up and ready compete!

Another issue to note when doing any type of drills is to make sure that your athletes are performing the exercises correctly. You compete like you practice. If athletes are not performing the drills correctly they are going increase the likelihood of injury by adding unnecessary stress to joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons.

Drills are designed to be done a certain way for a specific reason. If your athletes are not technically sound during the warm up they will not be technically sound in games and competitions when it counts. The warm up is not a time for goofing off. It is the foundation of the day's activities and sets the tempo for all that is to follow it.

So now that you know what types of activities must be done and how to approach them, let us take a look at an actual dynamic warm up that top athletes and coaches use to get ready each day.

Before trying this out with your athletes, be sure to have them jog and/or skip for about 5 minutes.

Here is a sample warm up:

- High knee walk - x10 each leg

- Jog 50 yards

- Lateral lunge walk (both legs) x10 each leg

- Jog 50 yards

- Front leg swings - x10 each leg

- Jog 50 yards

- Lateral Leg Swings – x 10 each leg

- Jog 50 yards

- Iron Cross – x 10 each leg

- Jog 50 yards

- Scorpion – x 10 each leg

- Jog 50 yards

- Backwards Run – 2 x 30 yards

- 'A' Skip - 3x15 yards

- 'A' Run - 2x20 yards

- Fast Leg - 2x30 yards (each leg)

- Accelerations - 4 x 40 yards

By performing this type of warm up every day, your athletes will be loose, powerful and fast. Be sure that your soccer team is performing a dynamic warm up before each practice and game; otherwise the athletes you train are not competing to the best of their ability and the likelihood of sustaining an injury is increased.

When you compare the benefits that the dynamic warm up offers to the drawbacks of other warm up methods, you can expect an immediate improvement in the success of the athletes you work with. Learn more at: www.CompleteSpeedTraining.com

History of the Manchester United Shirt
By Patrick Attlee Platinum Quality Author

Manchester United F.C. is an English football club that plays in the English Premier League. Their home ground is Old Trafford in Greater Manchester. The Red Devils as they are affectionately known boast over 300 million world-wide fans. Meaning that out of every 20 people on earth, one of them will be a Manchester United Fan! Currently managed by Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United are one of the most successful teams in the history of English football and have won 21 major titles since he was hired in 1986. During its remarkable history, many famous players have run out in the famous Manchester United shirt which can trace its roots back when Manchester United were called Newton Heath Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Football Club.

The famous strip, familiar to millions around the world today has come a long way since the club's early days in the late 1800s. In the Newton Heath days, the shirts were made up of yellow and green sections (1878 - 1892) with some additional colour schemes being used such as a red and white shirt (1892-1894) coupled with blue shorts. There was also a brief period where a white shirt with a red sash was deployed. This all changed in 1902 when the club changed its name to Manchester United. At this point the club radically altered the kit colours to red shirts, white shorts and black socks. This colour scheme has been the basis of the home kit ever since.

The away strip is white jerseys, black shorts and white socks however different looks to this strip have existed. The most notorious of these was the all-grey strip used in the 1995-1996 season. Bizarrely, Manchester United did not win a single game when wearing this strip, the players claiming that passes were going astray because it was too hard to see their team-mates! The Manchester United Third Strip is all-blue out of respect to the kit used in the 1968 European Cup triumph.

The Manchester United shirt worn for home games today is red with a white stripe running down the back. A patch with the words "The Red Devils" on an image of the team's devil mascot is sewn on the bottom-left of the shirt. The club logo is on a red shield on the left breast. The emblem has been altered through the years but takes its inspiration from the crest of the City of Manchester. The "Red Devil" was added in the 1960s after Matt Busby heard the nickname being used by a local rugby club. The away shirt in use today is white with blue piping at the edges. It has red trim on the neck and the club emblem is on a white background on the left breast.

I hope this article has provided an interesting snapshot into the history of the Manchester United Shirt, and if your million dollar question on "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" is "What was the first name Manchester United F.C. were known by?", you won't need to use a lifeline!

Cristiano Ronaldo Picture Of A Perfect Footballer - Read About The World's Best Soccer Player

Cristiano Ronaldo has been in sensational form all season for Manchester United, and his goals and performances on the pitch have no doubt helped to provide Man United with yet another Premiership title after a belated 3-year absence.

United winger Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 17 goals this season from 31 appearances for club side Manchester United, and is currently in with a chance of finishing the season as top Premiership goal-scorer. He is currently second in the top scorers chart for the Premiership, and is only 2 goals behind Didier Drogba who is leading the chart with just one fixture remaining.

Though this award may be one step too far for Cristiano Ronaldo, it is probably one that he wouldn’t mind out on missing. Cristiano Ronaldo is a winger and for a midfielder to score 17 goals in one season is an incredible performance. Cristiano won’t mind out on this award though; the United midfielder has already won both the PFA young player of the year award and the PFA player’s player of the year award, a feat not matched since 1977 when Andy Gray also won both awards.

Cristiano Ronaldo is also seen as a bit of a sex symbol by plenty of English women, with plenty of interest shown in the United winger’s private life by media and fans alike. This can be noticed from the Google search engine’s search-terms used; cristiano ronaldo girlfriend, cristiano ronaldo wallpapers and cristiano ronaldo pictures are some of the most popular searches made. Young female fans around the world will be heart-broken to hear that Cristiano Ronaldo does currently have a girlfriend, actress and former Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s girlfriend and his personal awards this season aren’t the only positives to come out of the United winger’s season; speculation regarding his future has all been put to bed since Ronaldo signed a new 5 year contract worth £120,000 a week. Ronaldo had been constantly linked with interest from other top European sides, with Milan, Real Madrid and Barcelona all consistently linked with big-money bids for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Manchester United midfielder Cristiano Ronaldo has the chance to complete an amazing personal season by lifting the FA Cup when Man United meet league runners-up Chelsea in the final at the new Wembley stadium in May. Ronaldo already has the premiership medal, PFA young player’s award, PFA player’s player award, a 5 year contract with the Premiership champions worth £5 million and a stunning actress girlfriend. He can still top this incredible season by being top premiership scorer, and by winning the FA Cup at the first major match at Wembley stadium. Life can’t get much better for Cristiano Ronaldo.

All About the Gangster Tattoos By David Tony

Gangster and prison tattoos are very popular recently. You will see lots of different types of gangster tattoos inked on the gangster's bodies as you walk along the street.

Among the members of gangs, the gangster tattoo is considered as the symbol of strong bond. It's the fact that gang members are devoted to their fellows even more than their immediate family members. Gangster tattoos symbolize the same devotion and loyalty towards the gang.

On the other hand, prison tattoos came to light after Japanese started use of them in order to differentiate prisoners from general public after they were freed. Prison tattoo is also frequently used by groups such as bikers, gypsies, bandits, and circus artists.

However, more and more people considered prison and gangster tattoos as nuisances nowadays. Despite growing popularity and more and more people are having tattoos, there are certain tattoos such as gangster tattoos and prison tattoos that are considered disgraceful.

Bar Magic - Nine Coins By Lucas Da Silva Platinum Quality Author

This simple but effective bar trick will amaze and entertain anyone who sees it. And unlike most magic, you can repeat this trick as many times as you want without anyone discovering how it works.

Right, you'll need nine coins, and an accomplice with a bottle of beer and a beer mat, or some other subtle reference point. Don't worry, all will be explained.

It doesn't matter what type of coins you use. Just collect nine coins that are in your pocket or lying around on the bar.

And the coins don't all have to be the same. In fact, it will add more mystery to the trick if you use a variety of different coins, as some of the more inquiring people in your crowd will try looking for patterns of coin use that just don't exist.

Take the nine coins and lay them on the table in a square, three rows of three.

The trick begins with you claiming that you can guess which coin someone touched last.

You can wrap this basic premise up any way you want, by claiming that you can see, hear, smell or even feel the psychic every surrounding the coin.

All that matters is that you make it entertaining and mysterious.

Once you've decided who will be choosing a coin, leave the room, perhaps to go to the bar or the toilet, and give them a few moments to make their choice.

After you return, take your time and consider each of the coins in turn. After a few seconds, point to the coin that was selected and wait for the looks of disbelief on the faces of your audience.

How did you do it?

Easy!

This is where your accomplice earns his free drink. When you leave the room, make sure that your accomplice knows what to do and is sitting in a place where you can subtly look at them without arousing suspicion.

As you leave the room, your accomplice should take a drink from his bottle and keep a close eye on the coin selected. Then, it's just a case of subtly placing their bottle on a certain part of the beer mat or other reference point that will indicate the chosen coin.

Right in the middle indicates the middle coin. Each of the corners represents a corner coin and the middle of each side of the mat correlates to the remaining four coins.

As soon as you return, you'll be able to tell at a glance with coin was selected. From that point until you reveal the answer it's just a case of putting on a good show. Do whatever you have to in order to increase the suspense, for example, pretending to sense the psychic waves emitted by each of the coins etc.

Once you reveal the right coin, the buzz from your audience is amazing. They'll be convinced that you somehow say the person making their choice, or that you noticed that one of the coins was moved etc. Just don't be surprised if you have to do the trick again...and again, as they try to work out how you managed to outwit them. But they won't.

With careful timing, subtle actions and a lot of theatrics, you can do this trick as many times as you want and nobody will ever suspect a thing.

And if you want to further reduce your chances of being found out, make sure that your accomplice subtly picks up or moves his bottle as soon as he knows you've seen it. Make sure that they act naturally and pretend to be as amazed as the rest of the crowd when you choose the right coin. But whatever happens, make sure that they don't overdo it, as an over-reaction is just as much of a giveaway as an under-reaction.

Plastic Surgey: The New Beauty Norm? By K. Martin

This is a good topic to discuss especially now since the popularity of all the make-over shows. I have always been curious as to why people, mostly women, have this idea that they are expected to look a certain way in order to "fit in" with society.

We all would like to believe that quaint saying, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", but how true and meaningful is that phrase when the beholder has been brainwashed, so to speak, into subscribing to the belief that beauty is the artificial look we see on glamour mags, in TV commercials, and even in some children's books? For some time now, that image has consisted mainly of white women and the "white standard of beauty".

I decided to take this question of plastic surgery and the search for beauty and see how it can affect some women in the African-American community. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, African-Americans make up only 6% of plastic surgery patients. Why is this? Do African-American women have a more positive self/body image or is it that many cannot afford it? And for the 6% who do have surgery, to which standard of beauty were they trying to aspire?

I chose to start my search for the white standard of beauty in 1960. I chose that year because at the time, a TV show was airing that sought to teach moral and societal lessons through fantastical tales.
Two episodes of this show were very telling and prophetic, and they both dealt with how society viewed beauty and the expectations placed on women to be "beautiful".
That show was, The Twilight Zone.

Beauty in 1960...
Rod Serling offered us a tale of beauties and beasts in episode #42 entitled: Eye of the Beholder.
Here's a brief synopsis of the show I found at The Twilight Zone Guide:
Janet Tyler anxiously awaits the outcome of her latest surgery. Janet, who's abnormal face has made her an outcast, has had her eleventh hospital visit - the maximum allowed by the State. If it didn't succeed, she will be sent to live in a village where others of her kind are segregated. As her bandages are removed, she is revealed to be very beautiful. The doctor draws back in horror. As the lights come on we see the others, their faces are misshapen and deformed. As Janet runs from her room crying, she runs into another of her kind, a handsome man named Walter Smith. He is in charge of an outcast village, and he assures her that she will eventually feel she belongs. He tells her to remember the old saying: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
Although the show was filmed in black and white, we can clearly see that Ms. Tyler is Caucasian. The doctors appear to have darker skin, nevertheless, the idea here was that the viewers empathized with Ms. Tyler because she was the classic blonde, slender beauty commonly seen in 1960's fashion magazines.
As the show closes, the narrator speaks:
"Now the questions that come to mind. Where is this place and when is it, what kind of world where ugliness is the norm and beauty the deviation from that norm? The answer is, it doesn't make any difference. Because the old saying happens to be true. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, in this year or a hundred years hence, on this planet or wherever there is human life, perhaps out among the stars. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Lesson to be learned...in the Twilight Zone."

1964: The Standard Continues
Episode #137, in Season Five, is called, "Number Twelve Looks Just Like You", and was adapted by a short story called "The Beautiful People". In this episode, we meet Marilyn, a young woman who is about to go through a rite of passage in her community. This rite is called "The Transformation" and it requires citizens to choose among several models of bodies into which they will be transformed. The message here is that this society only sees one standard of beauty and that one will not be happy unless they look and act just like everyone else. Opening Narration:
"Given the chance, what young girl wouldn't happily exchange a plain face for a lovely one? What girl could refuse the opportunity to be beautiful? For want of a better estimate, let's call it the year 2000. At any rate, imagine a time in the future when science has developed a means of giving everyone the face and body he dreams of. It may not happen tomorrow--but it happens now, in the Twilight Zone."

Once again, the beautiful people are all white and we don't see any women or men of color. What was this episode trying to tell black women about beauty? The closing narration:
Portrait of a young lady in love--with herself. Improbable? Perhaps. But in an age of plastic surgery, body building, and an infinity of cosmetics, let us hesitate to say impossible. These and other strange blessings may be waiting in the future--which after all, is the Twilight Zone."

Beauty 40 Years Later

Some aspects of beauty standards have changed, but not much. We do see more black models and beautiful black women, but when you look at the majority of the more famous ones, (Tyra, Halle, Janet, Vanessa Williams, Beyonce, a few of whom have had plastic surgery, on their noses and other body parts), you can see straight away that they have many Caucasian attributes: small, pinched noses, lighter complexion, lighter eyes, straight, lightly colored hair. It is rare that you will see a model with very dark skin, a tight afro, wide, round, larger nose, and full, large lips. Flip through any issue of Vogue or Glamour and look for that image I just described. Then look for the first image I described.

So, are black women trying to aspire to the white standard of beauty when they seek plastic surgery?

According to Cynthia Winston, assistant professor of psychology at Howard University in Washington, D.C., We really don't know much about how blacks are influenced. Most of the research focuses on perceptions related to skin color. Foe most African-Americans, perception can be shaped by their environment. For example, an African-American woman growing up in an all-white neighborhood in Nebraska may be more likely than an African-American woman raised in inner-city Detroit to compare herself with white images of beauty.

(Source: African-American Women & Plastic Surgery: Self-Improvement or Self-Hatred? By Angela D. Johnson, Sept. 2, 2003)

Now What?

I suppose, it all comes down to how one feels inside about themselves. But there is this viscous cycle of doubt that women constantly face so it's often hard to reconcile your inner voices with the outside images thrown at you everyday. Many women buy into the trends and fashions that dictate beauty. TV shows and print ads abound with images of sexy women. Fitness clubs persuade women to join not so they will lower their risk of heart disease, but so they will aspire to be beautiful on the outside. No one tries to sell things that will help them on the inside.

In the end, you can look at all of this and say that there will always be standards of beauty and those who aspire to live up those standards, and those wanting to make a profit off those standards (cosmetic companies, ad agencies, modeling agencies, fashion designers, plastic surgeons, psychotherapists). The media portrays what people want to see and apparently, it's sex and "beauty".

Ms. Martin currently resides in sunny Southern California with her son. When she's not writing, she works part-time as a preschool teacher where she hopes to help all children develop positive self and body images.

Do you Know the Origin of Basketball? By Catherine Kenyeres Platinum Quality Author

The origins of the game of basketball can be traced back to a gentleman by the name of Dr. James Naismith. In 1861, Naismith was born in Almonte, Ontario, Canada. During his early school days, Naismith would play a game called duck on a rock whereby the child would endeavor to knock the duck off the top of the rock with a toss of another rock.

Later on, Naismith would go on to McGill University in Montreal and would later become McGill University's Athletic Director. He would subsequently move on to YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts and in 1891, the game of basketball began.

Given the cold Massachusetts winters, Naismith needed to find a recreational activity that could be played indoors and he preferred a sport that would develop skill and one that was not exclusively relying on strength. The first game was played with two peach baskets for goals and a soccer ball.

Further to his credit, Naismith became a medical doctor specializing in sports physiology and a Presbyterian minister. Naismith was able to see his beloved sport of basketball, gain acceptance in numerous countries through the YMCA since 1893. As well, the sport of basketball was brought forth at the Berlin Olympics in 1936. As we speak, the game of basketball has become a very popular professional sport.

Healing Through the Written Word By Virginia Dever

Healing through the Written Word - Writing is the medicine we need to heal our everyday wounds and provide us with the immunity to go forth and live, knowing we have a powerful healer at our fingertips.

Everyday wounds are those hurts that present themselves to us on a daily basis through our relationships and interactions with others and stay with us until they are addressed and eventually healed. Each day we are presented with situations that can develop into wounds or contribute to our growth as a Higher Ground Human. It all depends on what we choose.

"Everyday wounds" consist of the following:

* Fears we have not faced or embraced. * Hurt feelings that either are not recognized or addressed. * Blocks or obstructions that keep us from achieving our goals, evolving, or developing self esteem. * Lost dreams due to overwhelm. * Feelings of isolation. * Frustration * Negativity and judgments. * Unable to focus.

We can choose to walk in integrity taking us one step closer towards becoming a Higher Ground Human or as many of us do we can choose to take the safe route, hide our true feelings, protecting our vulnerability and safely hiding our fear.

When we choose the latter, we are being untrue to ourselves, the biggest sin of all. We are our own worst enemy. Once we realize and accept our hurtful behavior we are ready to step onto our healing path and begin the journey. To do otherwise would be deliberately unkind.

Writing is an untapped natural healer, which according to The Med Serv. Medical News, reporting on a study by Smyth & colleagues, concluded that "The simple act of writing about bad times can be potent, and a low cost, method of relieving pain and symptoms of chronic illnesses....

Healing our emotional wounds is necessary for us to move forward, to grow spiritually, to live peacefully and to Be the best we can be.

Walking in integrity means our thoughts; actions and feelings are all aligned, all in accordance all congruent (in agreement). Actively and consciously inhibiting and holding back our thoughts and feelings takes work AND can lead to stress, ultimately affecting our immune system often putting us at risk for major and minor diseases.

James W Pennebaker, PhD is his 1990 book; Opening Up showed a relationship between expressing our emotions through writing and the positive effect this type of writing has on our immune system.

Healing is learning to be true to ourselves. To be true to ourselves and to trust ourselves takes courage and a knowing of who we are. To become true to ourselves we must embrace our fears, walking through them to the other side. When we do this we open ourselves to trusting and experiencing life.

Knowing who we are is a life-long journey AND it takes willingness on our part to consciously take that first step.

I believe we are all aware of what happens when our emotions are left dangling with no where to go, or no release. They can manifest themselves into physical ailments, leaving us confused and often making visits to the doctor's office.

Healing our everyday wounds is necessary for our mental health AND for personal growth.

Everyday wounds are painful and many of us choose to simply ignore or eliminate the pain by being in a constant state of denial.

For those who choose to travel through the pain, we find integrity and personal growth on the other side.

Writing is a powerful tool to have when moving through the pain. Through writing we can make sense out of confusion, giving meaning to emotional hurts, pin-pointing the root of our pain and sadness and opening us up to a whole new world.

Writing on a daily basis at the same time is a simple everyday ritual we must develop. When you have a conflict between your thoughts and your actions sit down and begin to write giving yourself a prompt. Your prompt may be "Why was I angry yesterday.........?" and just let the words flow through your fingers onto the paper. This free writing is powerful. You will know when you are finished.

Now give yourself the prompt "Why was I not truthful .......?" and begin to write, letting the words flow out onto the paper.

Once you are finished sit quietly and read both writings. I promise, you will be exposed to the answers to both of your prompts, giving you the opportunity to make amends to yourself by bringing your actions and your thoughts in alignment. You will begin to walk your thoughts and your talk AND be yourself. There is nothing more powerful and a battle worth fighting.

The famous American poet, EE Cummings, said, "To be nobody-but-yourself----in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else---means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight...."

This exercise will take only 30 minutes of your time, yet it is invaluable when it comes to your personal growth.

Writing helps us get in touch with what is hidden from us, giving us answers to those questions that seem to baffle us often exposing the reason behind our anger.

Writing gives us energy and frees us from the ties that bind. When we write we create a spiritual, truthful connection with ourselves and with others.

Give yourself the gift of writing.

Weight Loss - What Goals to Set and How to Reach Them

To successfully lose weight in a sustainable manner, the approach can make all the difference. An effective approach is to set appropriate targets (objectives to be more or less long term and daily), to choose good ways to implement and monitor its progress towards achieving these objectives by adjusting the means according to the results .

SELECT appropriate targets

Have realistic expectations on the time required for weight loss reduces the risk of abandoning the effort.

How to set realistic goals?

- Getting to the idea of losing relatively slowly

Most experts agree that losing 5% to 10% of its original weight may be achievable. So for a weight of 90 pounds, a goal is reached 5 to 9 pounds.

A realistic goal is to lose one half to one kilo per week to stay healthy.

- To calculate

Allows the calculation to be realistic about the time required. For a loss of 10 pounds, consider a program of at least 3 months.

For a loss of 20 pounds, at least six months will be needed.

This requires a reduction target of 500 to 1000 calories a day either by eating less, doing more exercise or both. One kilogram equals 7700 calories. Thus a change of 500 calories per day, compared with the daily need to maintain weight, can lose a kilo in 2 weeks (500 * 15 = 7500).

- Set short term goals

Focus on stages like losing 2.5 pounds versus 10 pounds to help stay motivated (e). The daily goal is to get through the day by not eating too much or even succeed to insert a step in the day.

Losing weight slowly helps maintain weight loss for at least one reason: it gives time to adopt new behaviors that will be needed for weight maintenance.

Focus on changing habits every day, not just on weight loss, can make all the difference to reach its goal.

SELF-SUPERVISE

- Monitor progress

It is important to note its weight on a regular basis to monitor its progress. Be weighed daily or at least very regularly, while learning to take account of natural variations, allows to adjust the power or the level of daily exercise to achieve its purpose.

- Make the right adjustments

Keep a food diary can double weight loss

Lose weight without dieting: 10 strategies supported by research

Lose weight: two expert advice

- Re-evaluate the need to target

If you are not able to reach your goal, it is probably too high in relation to your eating habits and your level of energy expenditure.

There are learning to make a better choice for food and resources to implement to succeed in changing habits in daily life.

If weight gain continues, it would be beneficial if the goal becomes the maintenance rather than weight loss. When this goal is reached, it will gradually add small changes.

Learning How to French Kiss is Easy By Lauren Worthington

Learning how to French kiss your girlfriend or boyfriend may seem very scary at first. However, with enough practice and tips you will be able to kiss your boyfriend or girlfriend with confidence and ease. If you are ready to take your relationship up another level, then learn how to French kiss.

Because French kissing involves a physical aspect, attraction is crucial. Creating the right kind of attraction with your boyfriend or girlfriend can be done through the way you look and the way you smell. Take extra time to do your hair or make-up. In addition, try to dress in a way that you know your boy or girl likes. Wearing the right type of cologne or perfume can turn up the attraction, as well. Just be careful not to spray too much cologne or perfume or else your partner will not be attracted to you, bur rather he or she will be coughing from the overpowering smell.

The use of flirting and complimenting is another route to take to strengthen attraction. This coupled with dressing nicely and smelling good can create a very strong sense of attraction between you and your partner. Girls should flirt and tease their partners, while guys can give their girls nice compliments.

When you are learning how to French kiss, do not forget the basic fundamentals of just plain, old kissing. Keep your eyes shut to avoid awkwardness while you are kissing your partner. Also, make sure that when you go in for a kiss, you tilt your head slightly to the left or right to make sure you do not bump noses and hurt one another.

Placing your girlfriend or boyfriend in the right place and environment is also a crucial point in French kissing. Perhaps watch a movie on a cozy couch while cuddling. Also, men should hold their girls in the arms gently and caress their bodies. Girls can rub their partners' necks and massage their backs. Each of these routes will create relaxation and comfort.

When and only when relaxation, comfort, and attraction has been achieved, you can then begin kissing. Do not just start shoving your tongue deep within your partner's throat. This is simply not how it is done. Gentle, light, little kisses are the avenue to take at first. Once you do this for a while, then you can start the transition to the French kiss by opening your mouth and placing and putting your tongue upon his or her tongue.

Once you have gotten rid of nervousness with your partner, you can then experiment different types of styles and techniques of French kissing. By touching your tongue and mouth to different parts of your partner's mouth, you can create a whole new set of feelings. You should consider rubbing your tongue across the top of your partner's mouth and vice versa. Another move you can make is slightly nibbling on his or her lips when you take your tongue out of his or her mouth. Doing all these things will intensify the feelings of affection and pleasure for both you and your partner.

Online Dating 101 - Online Dating Basics By Kevin Koger

Feeling like there’s something that’s just not quite there yet in how you’re going about this whole online dating thing? Don’t feel bad, chances are you’re one of the many people who’re still pretty new to this gig. Heck, internet dating has only been around for about eight years, so obviously no one out there can claim to have all the answers.

But hey, seeing that we've been perfecting the art of matching people up online all eight of those years, we’d like to share a little of what we’ve learned about how to make the best of your online experience. Who knows, one of these pointers might be just what you’ve been missing in perfecting your own online dating adventures.

Therefore, without further ramblings, here are the:

TOP 10 TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL ONLINE DATING

SAY CHEESE!
Look your best and submit a great photo of yourself for your profile photo. A good picture really is worth a thousand words, and research shows that you are nearly 10 times more likely to be noticed if you post a photo to your profile.

And, the same stats hold true when you contact someone you’ve noticed on the site. If you don’t have a photo, don’t be surprised if the responses aren’t too quick in coming back.

Now, don’t get mad a start making accusations about all the shallow people out there. While it may be true that some people place too much emphasis on physical appearances, the bottom line is it does make a difference when two people are meeting and making initial evaluations of their interest in each other. And, it’s also a trust thing. It is always going to be much easier to interact with a face than with a blank box.

FRESH IS GOOD
Change your profile picture and greeting occasionally, add photos to your photo album, and login regularly—this will not only get you noticed, but it will help others get a more varied and up-to-date idea of what constitutes the real you.

When something interesting happens in your life, tell us about it in your profile greeting. This is a great way to let your online friends in on what it might be like to actually spend time with you. That’s the main goal of online dating isn’t it, to find people you’d finally like to meet and spend time with face-to-face? Anyways, it’s always more fun to hear about a crazy experience you’ve just had than to read the same old descriptions of you and your cat that have been on your profile for months now.

As for photo albums, this is the icing on the cake. Not only do these photos round out and confirm the physical picture your friends are forming of you, but they also go a long way in helping others really see what makes you “you.” The head and shoulders shot of you in your profile photo is nice and all, but when they see you hanging 10, running with your Chihuahua, or shoving a big fat piece of cheesecake in your mouth … now they’re getting to know you.

I HAVE CONFIDENCE IN ME
Have fun describing yourself without making excuses about why you're on the site or who convinced you to finally go online. Tell us what makes you unique.

Believe it or not, being an online dater no longer places you on the fringes of society or even in the minority. Online dating has grown up and moved into the mainstream, and so you can now happily assume that the face-saving qualifiers of past times online are now obsolete. And, more importantly, just realize that they don’t help your cause when meeting others online.

One more thing … try to be original. Yes, I’m sure you really do like the outdoors and want to meet someone who looks good in a tux and in jeans, but so does everyone else! Tell us some things about yourself that wouldn’t necessarily come out in an elevator conversation with your tax accountant. For example, what are you passionate about? What would you do if no longer had to work for a living? What’s your favorite flavor of gelato? Do you secretly wish everyday was sampling day at the grocery store? … now it’ getting interesting!

HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY
Don't be fooled thinking telling fibs will impress that special someone enough to get relationship started... it will turn them off! Be your best self.

When you really stop and think about it, what do you think your new friend’s reaction is going to be if when you meet for the first time it’s obvious you’re not the person they thought they were going to be meeting? “Oh .. hi. I see that you’ve been dishonest with me from the get-go here, but hey, I’m still thinking we’ve got a great shot at having an open, trusting relationship for the long-term” Obviously not.

They’re going to be hurt, and disappointed. And, your relationship is unlikely to get past the wave goodbye as your friend gets back in their car to go home.

IT'S NICE TO BE NICE
Okay, so you get a little grouchy once in a while—don’t we all? However, people like nice people. Please be considerate and polite … it will make this whole online thing so much more enjoyable for all of us!

There’s an interesting social phenomenon researchers have discovered in online interactions. They’ve found people often change their standards of politeness and diplomacy when a conversation is happening online, versus face-to-face.

Don’t believe it? You might be surprised if you were to go back and look at some of the things you’ve said. Look at some messages you’ve sent, and then consider saying the exact same words in a face-to-face or a telephone conversation. Sound a little rough? Don’t feel too bad, it happens to the best of us, just try to keep this in mind the next time you’re typing out an email or instant message.

One more thing—please don’t ignore people. A quick “thanks, but no thanks” note is so much better than no reply at all. In fact, next time you’re replying to a message on the site, check out the new “Thanks but No Thanks” template. It’s a quick way to nicely let someone know you’re not interested in corresponding.

YOU CAN PICK YOUR FRIENDS …
Invite your friends along! Create Activity Groups, go on group dates, try Express Dating, enjoy travel events, and just enjoy the net together. After all, instant messaging alone isn’t enough to build solid relationships.

Group dating and group events simply make a lot of sense for online dating. Not only does it make those first dates less stressful, it often makes them more fun, and it definitely makes first meetings a much safer proposition.

Have you ever tried Activity Groups? They’re a great way to meet people with common interests in a safe, fun group setting. You can join a group that’s already been created, or you can create your own and invite all your friends to join … and their friends … and their friends … you get the point.

BREAK OUTA THAT SHELL
Don’t be afraid to make the first contact. Online dating makes it easy for all you shy ones out there to break the ice, because you get to do all the initial getting to know each other from the comfort and safety of your own computer.

To start, just send a Flirt or a quick email message saying Hi—and do it often! You might be surprised how many of our great members suffer from lack of attention from their online peers. Not only might you find someone with whom you’re very interested in maintaining contact, but you’ll probably be making someone’s day.

EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS
If your first internet efforts haven’t turned up “the perfect one,” don’t despair. Hundreds of new people sign up every day on the site, so just come back to see Who’s New. You may also want to consider expanding your searches—don’t be too intent on sticking to your itemized checklist for eternal mates.

You might also want to try some different searches from time to time. Because there are about a million different things you might find attractive in another person, it’s nice to mix up the criteria you’re searching on once in a while. For example, you can search by their Occupation, any Keyword or combination of keywords you can think
of, and many others.

UH OH … THIS MIGHT ACTUALLY BE FUN!
Don’t be afraid to have some fun along your path to relationship happiness! Enjoy getting to know people and understand that many happy relationships and even marriages start with a good ol’ friendship. And, don’t rush it!

You’ve heard animals can sense fear? Well, we humans can be pretty perceptive as well (except for that one guy who just can’t take a hint). So, don’t think others can’t sense when you’re frustrated, dejected, conceited, holier than thou, fed up, etc. etc. Put a smile on, and enjoy the ride, because even if the first few people you meet aren’t Mr./Mrs. Right, it doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun in good
conversations with them.

You may also need to be a little bit patient as you head off into the brave new world of online dating. Not all marriages are “love at first site,” and even if yours is, it may take a lot of looking before you “site” that special someone. And so, once again … enjoy the ride!

USE YOUR NOODLE
Ya know, that gray matter between your ears? That's your noodle. Use it! Be smart, be cautious, and follow our safety guidelines, your instincts, and the spirit in all your dating activity.

Done right, online dating is a lot of fun, and it’s a great way to meet some wonderful people … just ask the thousand-plus people we’ve had submit success stories to us in the past few years! So, enjoy it, and follow these ten tips, and hopefully we’ll be getting a success story from you sometime soon.

Making The Connection: Tips For Getting Noticed By Toni Coleman Platinum Quality Author

Chances are that you have had a wide variety of experiences in your quest for meeting
singles. These can range from an event that yields several nice interactions and at least
one offer to get together for a date, to going home feeling frustrated and convinced you
are destined to be a dating failure.

If you had made a note of your mood, your general attitude, your level of comfort, (and
other related factors) after each experience, you would have some very useful information.
For the attributes you carry along with you to these social gatherings will have a
great impact on the outcome of each.

The following are tips for helping you to present the best you to others. As you read each,
do a quick inventory of how you rate in that area. It's always helpful to ask friends to
weigh in with their observations. The more information, the better.

1. Present yourself as confident and in possession of a healthy self-esteem.

In general, people are attracted to those who appear confident and who feel good
about themselves. Certainly, this is a turn-on for you as well. If you feel desirable
and sexy, it makes sense that others will too.

If low self-esteem is a problem for you, this should be the first area you work on in
yourself. It is not necessary to have over the top confidence, just a sense that you
are someone that has a lot of positives to offer others.

Do some reading, take a class that teaches assertiveness and/or practice daily
affirmations. Remember also that when you treat yourself with respect and adhere
to healthy boundaries with others, you will foster a healthy sense of self.

2.Be Yourself

NEVER try to be someone you are not. Not only do you come across as insincere, you
also will present as uncomfortable and make others feel this way right along with
you.

Trying to be cool, aggressive, (etc.), generally just makes you awkward and unapproachable.
Relax, be natural, be the you that your friends and others who know and like you, see
and appreciate.

Think back to the times you have witnessed someone "acting" in a social situation,
and the general reaction of those around them. Then think about the people you
know who are good at meeting others. These are the people who present their true
(best) side.

3. Smile and Show Enthusiasm

Certainly you have encountered strangers who were sullen and appeared negative
and unapproachable. A smile can change all that.

Have an open and inviting expression. Make good eye contact. People are DRAWN
to others like this. Let that attractive stranger know you are open to meeting them
and happy to be there. If they have an interest back, this will pave the way for a
first interaction.

If you don't feel like smiling it may be a good idea to sit this one out at home
with a movie or a good book or a low-key get together with a good friend.

4. Present Your Best Appearance

Always make your best effort in your grooming and choice of clothing.
Attractive is just that. It's not about having beautiful features or a fantastic body.
It's all about presenting what you have in the best light possible.

This also includes presenting an attractive personality. Be friendly, not pushy.
Be open, not indiscreet. Have opinions, don't be a know-it-all. Always remember to
consider others' feelings and needs. These interactions are not just about you.

5. Have Some Good Openings Lines Available

Hint: Natural conversation is best.

Some possible ones to consider:

*Do you know so and so?

*I noticed you were enjoying the music a lot, isn't this a great band?

*Your drink looks good- what is it?

*I noticed you standing here alone and thought you may want some company.

Of course, the direct approach is ok too.

*Hi, I'm so and so, what is your name?

Remember that there are no rules anymore about who goes first. If you see
someone who interests you, go for it. Just remember that they may not return
your feelings. Then you move away gracefully, look around for someone
else that attracts you, and make an overture towards them.

Also remember that rejection is part of the process. If you let the fear keep you
from taking that first step, you will greatly lessen your chances of meeting and
connecting with compatible singles.

KING OF FIGHTERS

Iori Yagami

Kyo's rival, and a somewhat evil young man with loads of power. The Yagami bloodline has been tainted by a pact with the Orochi, and every now and then, Iori becomes uncontrollably insane as the Riot of Blood overtakes him. No, he is NOT emo, despite what the red hair would have you believe... well, okay, maybe he's just a BIT emo, but he's still cool! You wouldn't dare call him emo when he's in the Riot, or he'd eat your intestines.

Kyo Kusanagi

The main hero of the series, Kyo comes from a long line of warriors who wield a sacred flame. He would step away from the spotlight in later games, but would still be playable and remain one of SNK's most beloved characters. Also changes his outfit for each new storyline in the series. Genetic clones would be made out of him in later games, retaining his old moves while the real deal's moveset has had many alterations over the years.

Ralf Jones
A hotheaded commando who fights with some highly aggressive moves, many of which generate explosions. Speculated by many to have originally been Paul from the SNK shmup Ikari Warriors. He's got quite a loud mouth and is just the type of guy who really gets on your nerves if you fight against him.

Clark Steel
Ralf's brother-in-arms, who tends to be more laid back than his partner and prefers grapples and throws to striking attacks. Speculated by many to have originally been Vince from the SNK shmup Ikari Warriors. Dig the shades!

Japanese Anime and Manga

Japan is the home for many unique things and two which have become popular worldwide are Anime and Manga.

Manga, similar to western comic books, are unbelievably popular in today’s modern Japanese culture. Unlike American comic books which are targeted at children and teenagers, Japanese Manga is geared towards an adult audience although most appeals to all age groups.

Manga is unique to other types of comic books as the stories are usually deep and absorbing. These graphics and artwork are usually highly detailed and can have there own styles although they tend to stick to the standard Manga styles.

Anime is equivalent to western cartoons and many are in fact based on Manga although adapted for TV. Chobits and Cardcaptor Sakura created by CLAMP are both popular Manga which were then made into an Anime. Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh are examples of Anime which made its way outside Japan and became hugely popular.

Both Anime and Manga have there own distinctive style which is characterised by large eyes which allow emotions to be clearly shown and generally only three colors for the skin tones; one each for the base color, shadows and highlights. Extra features such as “sweat drops” and veins appear to enhance the impact of emotions displayed.
